Music & community production: Sunday Sample Crunch
I didn’t realise that Stones Throw had been running something similar for a while whenI started SSC, but our weekly products chop shop ran for about 7 years, and saw thousands of producer make countless beats. Each week I’d find a juicy sample, put it onto the community page and on the following Sunday everyone would share what they did with it.
Some weeks we’d get pretty decent names to give us exclusive acapellas - like Rah Digga (you remember her from Flip Mode with Busta Rhymes, right?) and , as well as some slick emerging acts like Myke Bogan.
Here’s my soundcloud as a testiment to the vast amount of time geeking out with audio.
back to projects
Here’s a rolling collection of some of my Sunday Crunch tracks that I can still listen to. There’s about 300 more on the page that are best left there. Sometimes I’d put the selection of beat entries onto a video if I’d shot something that didn’t have a home, like this footage of Hackeny carnival-goers setting out to Notting Hill in the rain. I shot a little video with Kaiji, who rapped over one of my SSC beats
